a list from ruth

the smell of sweet olive
       blooms in the spring
       and fall
discovering the first
       daffodil of spring
the sound of my
       husband's voice
my teenager saying
       "Mom, I love you."
inside a beautiful
       cathedral (such as the
       American Church in
       Paris) listening to the
       organ
a rare Saturday morning
       when you get to sleep in
       and no one has to be
       driven anywhere...being
       the first one up and
       having coffee
laying in the grass
       watching the clouds
being in the boat on
       the river
warm sun rays on your
       skin when it's just a
       little cool outside
knowing God is in
       control and I'm with him
